"You will be
called on the day of Judgement by your names and your fathers names,
so therefore, choose beautiful names" (Sunnan of Abu Dawud
Hadith 4930)
Naming a child with a beautiful and
honourable name is very important. The Prophet (SAW) always chose names
with good and beautiful meanings, even telling people to change their
names if they had unpleasant meanings.
The names followed by an asterisk* have an Arabic meaning and
may be in current use but, they are not normally used by Arabs because
they are either descriptive words, surnames or are used
in the wrong context regarding naming a child. They have been included
